Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was appointed chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell is a former panelist as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debates in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. She traveled extensively together with the president Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
